The European Badger is the only playable species within Shelter. It is 25-30cm in height at the shoulder, and 60-90cm in body length. While its weight can vary dependent on the season, in summer it can be 7-13kg, while in late autumn it peaks at 15-17kg. Generally speaking, the European badger is black, grey and white- predominantly grey, with a white face striped with black.
Within the Shelter universe, badgers eat foxes and plants, including apples and turnips. But in reality, they also eat insects, fruits, vegetables and cereals, and are opportunistic hunters of small mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians- when it comes to foxes, they are more likely to share a sett than to hunt each other.
Badgers are threatened by wolves and lynxes, though actual deaths caused by them are rare. In Shelter, eagles may also hunt adults and young alike.
